Ian Skelt acts for the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police in Supreme Court civil liability case

Judgment was handed down this morning in Robinson v Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police [2018] UKSC 4. Finding for the appellant, the Supreme Court has made highly significant inroads into the well-established principle that the police cannot be sued in negligence save in exceptional circumstances as a result of alleged failures in their core operational duties.
The case reviews the law on the civil liability of the police but has wider significance, in particular for public bodies.
