Michael Mylonas QC and Conrad Hallin in infant withdrawal of treatment case
16th May 2013
Michael Mylonas QC and Conrad Hallin were instructed on behalf of an NHS Trust in an application to withdraw treatment from an eighteen month old child who sustained permanent and gross brain injury following a respiratory and cardiac arrest. The independent medical evidence was unanimous that continued treatment was not in the child’s best interests. Counsel advised a mediated approach which resulted in sufficient consensus between the family and clinicians to avoid a contested hearing. On 16th May 2013, Coleridge J granted declaratory relief confirming that the proposed withdrawal was in the child’s best interests.
