Sarah Simcock acts in Art 2 jury inquest for Metropolitan Police
18th March 2014
Sarah Simcock represented the Metropolitan Police in the inquest into the death of Martin Schroeder who died after an altercation with the resident of a flat he had visited. Police attended to deal with the incident, Mr Schroeder rapidly became unwell and was taken to hospital where he died some hours later. The post-mortem revealed that he had died due to a neck hold applied by the resident prior to police arrival and the systemic complications of sickle cell disease. The jury returned a conclusion that the death was accidental. An IPCC investigation into the police officers’ actions found that they had acted quickly, professionally and in accordance with police procedures throughout the incident.
