Anthony Haycroft successfully defended a consultant burns and plastic surgeon before a Medical Practitioners Tribunal in a 2 week dishonesty and clinical failings case. The doctor had admittedly failed to obtain informed consent from a 16 year old boy or his parents for surgery upon him and then committed a number of surgical failures to leave a poor surgical outcome.
He was accused of dishonesty in his completion of the consent form which was not found proven. All of the clinical failures were admitted and the MPT agreed with Anthony Haycroft’s submissions that there was no current impairment of fitness to practise. A warning was issued.
