Coroner concludes In Amenas hostages were ‘unlawfully killed’

26th February 2015

HH Judge Hilliard QC has concluded that the seven British residents who were among the 40 men who died in the 2013 hostage siege at the In Amenas gas plant in Algeria were “unlawfully killed”.

The inquest, which commenced in September 2014, heard evidence from around 70 international and high-profile witnesses, such as the then Ambassador to Algeria and the UK Government’s Director of National Security.

Several members of Serjeants’ Inn Chambers were involved in the proceedings, including Bridget Dolan who acted as counsel to the Coroner, Katie Gollop who represented Belinda Green, the widow of one of the hostages and Claire Watson who was instructed on behalf of the Metropolitan Police.
