Inquest into the death of Emma Carpenter
29th July 2015
This was a complex Article 2 inquest into the death of Emma Carpenter, a 17 year old girl who died in December 2006 from anorexia nervosa in hospital weighing under 30kg.
The inquest lasted for two weeks and examined care in the two years before Emma’s death, with evidence from her family members, staff from her school, treating psychiatrists and other clinicians. The inquest considered the complexities of treatment for anorexic patients and whether there had been shortcomings in the care provided.
Bridget Dolan acted for the NHS Trust, Sebastian Naughton acted for a family member, Mr Noel Hand.
